30-04-09 -The mixed B team had a very good start of the season. Unfortunatly the success of our first match was clouded by Rob injuring his leg in the third round. Despite this the Team had a comfortably 7-2 win against West Mersea. Thanks to all the players and a get well soon to Rob.
13.05.09 – Another great win in our second match played in very tough conditions. The intermitent showers and the bad light forced us to stop play after the second round. However this was another great performance as shown by the final result : Dedham 6.5 Phoenix 2.5 . Well done and thanks to all the team.
28.05.09 – Under Ros captaincy the team continued its succesful season defeating Colchester Lawn 5-4. Thanks Ros for a job well done and to the team for another good result.
11.06.09 – The unseasonal weather almost spoilt our fourth match. We were allowed only a few minutes in the court when a downpour forced us to wait for the sun to come out again . The match re-started at around 8pm and as expected we only just managed to complete two rounds . Robert and myself finished our second set at around 9.40 when the lack of light was agravated by mist. Still, the effort was rewarded by the feeling of a job well done on a night when four of the sets were won on tie breaks !!! The final result was Dedham 6 1/2 Lexden Squash 2 1/2 . Well done team.
10.07.09 – The match will be remembered as the last one Mariline played for Dedham and the first we lost. West Mersea had a stronger team than in our previous meeting and proved to be stronger on the day. It looks as if everytime we play West Mersea somebody gets an injury , this time was Martin who had to play the last set with a swallen ankle that fortunatly seems to have improve since. Final result Dedham 4 West Mersea 5.
23.07.09 - Although everything seemed to go wrong before the match – Martin injured his knee the day before, the night before Roderick developed a temperature and Shiho couldn’t play, it was pouring rain before the match started– we managed to have a strong team. However it looks as if our team cannot have a game without someone getting injured. This time it was Sachio’s turn who injured his shoulder in the second game and struggle in his last one which unfortunately him and Marianne lost in a tie break played in the dark. Despite all this we managed to win Dedham 6 Phoenix 3. Well done team and special thanks to Matt and Marianne for stepping in at the last minute.
31.07.09-This match prospects did not look good on Thursday. With Jonny and Ros dropping out on Wednesday night due to injures and Shiho down with fever on Thursday afternoon it was not until Friday morning that a full team was assembled. But the prospects of the match started to change with the late arrival and subsequent forfeit of the first round by the Lexden Squash captain. Starting the match with three games ahead was a big boost but it does not take anything away from a solid team performance leading to a Dedham 8 Lexden Squash 1 result. Well done team and special thanks to Amanda and BJ who stepped in at the last minute despite carrying shoulder problems themselves.
7.08.09-
At the start of the season I thought that to win the league the B mixed team had to have a permanent squad. However this season proved that this is not always possible due to injures -5 players pulled out injured during the season- and personal commitments. The last match of the season presented the usual problem and I found myself searching for players on Wednesday evening. Fortunately Dan and Peter stepped into Rob and Martin’s shoes while they were having a successful run at Framingham; BJ was very kind to take the injured Ros’ place and Shiho was very good to be in stand by for Hilary, who was coming back from holidays on the day. The match was played on the knowledge that the winner would be also the League’s winner and Colchester Lawn offered a big challenge but the Dedham team showed to be stronger. Final result: Dedham 6 Colchester Lawn 3.
Big thanks to all the people who played for the team and in particularly to those who agreed to play when called at the last minute.
