Thurs. 23rd June vs. The Essex A home 6.30pm

Friday 8th July vs. The Essex A away 7pm
Friday 29th July vs. Frinton B home 6.30pm
Mon. 15th August vs. Frinton B away 6.30pm

Monday 15th August 2011 match against Frinton B – Won 6.5-2.5

PeterC/Anna S      8-0, 8-3, 3-2
Rob B/Sara A        8-0, 8-5, 4-4
Martin P/ Gina M   8-6, 6-8, 6-4

Under gloomy skies and with a host of mozzies, Dedham pulled off a good win to guarantee their place i n the premier division for another year.
Dodgy bounces could not deter us, Rob at times ‘on fire’ with stunning overhead smashes, Anna inspiring Peter to greater things and Martin and Gina gelling in their first outing together.
WELL DONE ALL !!
Tea was enjoyed to the dulcet tones of Zumba, James being missed along with the margarine……..somewhere in Croatia we believe…

Fri 29th July 2011 match against Frinton B – Won 6-3

James P/Gina- 5-8 9-8 8-3

Peter C/Shiho M- 8-5 8-4 8-3

Rob B/BJ Underwood- 4-8 5-8 8-6

An excellent win against a decent Frinton side. BJ and Gina played up for this important match and both played very well. Shiho and Peter once again got all 3 sets. Gina and James finished the match in style by beating Frintons second pair in a nail biting tie-break in near darkness! Another season in the premier is nearly guaranteed….a win in the last match will ensure another season in the Mixed Premier League.

Fri 8th July 2011 match against The Essex - Lost 8-1

James P/Sara A- 5-8 4-8 3-8

Peter C/Shiho M- 8-6 1-8 2-8

Rob B/Mihoko F- 1-8 0-8 1-8

After our epic victory over The Essex at Dedham last week as reported in the
Essex County Standard…… [ memorable because it was only their 2nd defeat in
6 years at the top of the Premier Division ]……….The Essex entertained us
on their indoor courts and trounced us 8-1….. only Shiho and Peter grasping a
set.
We consoled ourselves afterwards with lager, tea and copious sandwiches!!

Fri 1st July 2011 match against Frinton A – Lost 6-3

James P/Sara A- 1 set won

Peter C/Shiho M- 2 sets won

Rob B/Mihoko F- 0 sets won

A balmy evening and competitive tennis saw a 3-6 defeat by Frinton A, but no
disgrace, with Pete and Shiho winning 2 and James and Sara 1 .A massive crowd of
5 came to support while others at home watched a petulant Murray bow out to
Nadal.
Lovely sarnies and Martin’s savouries won the prize for
‘best presentation’ and taste !

Tues 26th April 2011 match against Frinton A - Lost 7-2

James P/Sara A- 2/8  3/8  8/6

Peter C/Shiho M- 3/8  8/6  0/8

Rob B/Mihoko F- 0/8  2/8  4/8

A wake up call in the first match of the season in the premier league! All the Dedham players competed well but were outclassed by Frinton, with only James & Sara and Peter & Shiho claiming a set.

Fri 13th May 2011 match against Kirby A Home - Lost 6.5-2.5

James P/Sara A- n/a  3/8  8/1

Peter C/Hilary C- 1/8  n/a  6/8

Rob B/Mihoko F- 4/8  6/8  n/a

Another tough match with only 2 sets won but last rounds divided due to poor lightand, who knows we may have picked up more sets there! An excellent tea, especially the egg sarnies and Hilary’s dips, and not forgetting James’ legendary home-made cakes…..

Fri 27th May 2011 match against Kirby A Away - Lost 1-8

James/Sarah 6-8 7-9 9-7
Pete/Ros- 4-8 5-8 3-8
Rob/Mihoko- 3-8 3-8 1-8

Another tough night, no wind, so no excuses ! James and Sara battled hard for over 3 hours for their one set, narrowly missing out on the other 2 sets….other pairs patiently waiting to play and for tea at the end ! Ros thoroughly enjoyed her time with Peter but poor Mihoko was off- colour and was brave to play at all. Kirby have a strong and youthful team and played very well. An excellent tea afterwards helped us recover with Peter relishing the veggie crisps. And the melon and cookies were yummy!

Thurs 23rd June 2011 match against The Essex A Home - Won 5-4

James/Sara 9-7 9-7 6-8
Pete/Shiho- 8-0 8-6 8-4
Ian/Mihoko- 0-8 1-8 5-8

A lovely summer’s evening after a very wet and windy day saw Dedham A pull off an unexpected victory over The Essex.
Excellent play all round saw Pete and Shiho win all their matches with apparent ease while James and Sara had to work
harder to win  two. However James and Sara  showed  admirable determination in the dark to win the last and deciding match 9-7, having been 4-7 down and having saved match points against them.
Ian and Mihoko starred in the kitchen department laying out tea and solving a ‘no water’ situation thus ensuring brews could be
made at end of play!

2009 Season

Mon 20 July vs. Colchester Lawn A away won 7 – 2
Mon 10 Aug vs. Phoenix A home drew 4.5 – 4.5
Thurs 13 Aug vs. Lexden Hill home won 6.5 – 2.5

Mon 18th May match against Lexden Hill – lost 4-5

Close but no cigar as 2 of our pairs went down 6-8 on the grass to Lexden’s 2nd pair.  Their 1st pair remain undefeated since 2007.

Ian P/ Sara A – 5-8  8-5  8-4
Simon B/ Veronica P – 5-8  8-4  6-8
Martin P/ Hilary C – 2-8  8-4  6-8

Wed 27th May match against Phoenix A - won 5-4

Terrific performance by Veronica & James in another close encounter against a previously undefeated team.

Ian P/ Sara A – 4-8  4-8  8-0
James P/ Veronica P – 8-6  8-6  8-0
Simon B/ Anna S – 6-8  5-8  8-1

Mon 15th June match against Lexden Hill – postponed (rain)
Mon 22nd June match against Spring Lane A - lost 4-5

Yet another tight match with Sara & Ian doing well to gain two sets.  Strawberries & fairy cakes were adequate compensation though.

James P/ Veronica P – 8-9  6-8  8-1
Ian P/ Sara A – 4-8  9-7  8-4
Simon B/ Anna S – 6-8  4-8  8-5

Thurs 25th June match against Spring Lane A - lost 3-6

Well beaten by the opposition’s 1st & 2nd pair.  Rumours received that Roddick wanted to play were dashed when he refused point blank to bring cake.

Ian P/ Sara A – 2-8  3-8  8-3
James P/ Veronica P – 4-8  1-8  9-7
Peter C/ Anna S – 2-8  5-8  8-4

Fri 3rd July match against Colchester Lawn A - won 7-2

Comfortable win with Anna & Rob excelling.  Roddick sent apologies – unable to play due to insignificant final next day.  Anna’s cucumber sarnies minus crusts & Rob’s Marmite & Piccalilli rolls were enjoyed by the relevant classes.

James P/ Veronica P – 4-8  8-1  9-7
Simon B/ Sara A – 7-9  8-3  8-5
Rob D/ Anna S – 8-4  8-2  8-2

Mon 20th July match against Colchester Lawn A - won 7-2

Another comfortable win with Sara & James doing well to snatch the set against the no. 1′s.  Sara branded a new lighweight & advised that James had a featherlight touch – think she was referring to rackets?  The mix around of partners didn’t affect the outcome which guarantees our remaining in the division.

James P/ Sara A – 8-6  8-3  8-0
Simon B/ Veronica P – 1-8  8-2  8-0
Ian P/ Anna S – 0-8  8-5  8-5

Mon 11th August match against Phoenix A - drew 4.5 – 4.5

A tough match against 2 good pairs with 2 sets incomplete due to lack of light.  When the C&D committee stop scheduling matches for April & August, we might stand more of a chance of completing matches due to poor light, which usually causes disagreement & friction.  Simon & Sara pulled out a fine win in their first set.  Surprisingly, Simon’s ’organic’ radish & spring onion rolls were not all snaffled up - his dog was most grateful the next day!  The result means 3 teams all have chances for promotion – Phoenix, Lexden Hill & Dedham.

James P/ Veronica P – x-x  6-8  8-3
Simon B/ Sara A – 8-6  x-x  8-0
Rob B/ Shiho M – 2-8  4-8  8-2

Thursday 13th August match against Lexden Hill A - won 6.5 – 2.5

James P/ Sara A - 8-6  8-2  8-3
Ian P/ Veronica P- 2-8  8-3  8-0
Rob B/ Anna S - 2-8  x-x  8-5

Match scheduling again caused an incomplete match despite an earlier start.  A battling win by James & Sara against Richard & Julie Sexton.  The result stops Lexden being promoted and hands the title back to Phoenix.  Dedham fail to be promoted by one & a half points – thank goodness for that!
