2011 Season

Thur 28th July vs Frinton C @ Home

Final game of the season & another good win (7-2) for the B’s against Frinton to guarantee second place in the table. John & Robert, steady as a rock claimed all 3. Russell & Halford opted for tie breaks in two sets, winning 1 & losing 1. Tony & Dan put in a Jeckyl & Hyde performance – winning two sets 8-1, and losing another effectivey 1-8 (3-0 up, losing 4-8)

J&R  8-2 ; 8-3; 8-2

D&T 8-1 ; 4-8 ; 8-1

H&R 9-8 ; 8-9 ; 8-4

Men’s B Wed. 14th July vs. Wivenhoe Away 6.30pm

Shaken but not stirred, Wivenhoe claimed a 7-2 win over Dedham B. Comfortably the best team in the league, despite the scoreline Wivenhoe had to work for this one. Robert & John, Halford & Russell both rattled their first pair, while Matt & Dan succumbed 9-7 against the best second pair in the league. 2 matches in 2 nights for the B’s, time for a rest zzzzzzzz

Scores
John & Robert 8-4, 6-8, 0-8
Dan & Matt 2-6, 7-9, 9-7
Halford & Russell 5-8, 3-8, 5-8

Men’s B Tue. 13th July vs. West Mersea A Away 6.30pm (rearranged from August)

A comfortable 6:3 away win for the B’s. John & Robert had the performance of the season coming from 7-3 down to win 9-7 against an accomplished first pair from Mersea. With the first two rubbers played on Merseas new grass courts (congrats to all involved), the team had a commanding lead before moving to the hard courts where fading light, and worsening weather put paid to all but Halfor & Russell who won comfortably. Scores (NOTE: not from memory or doctored in any way)

Matt & Donal: 8-6, 8-4, 4-8

Robert & John: 9-7, 8-0, 5-8

Halford & Russell: 8-6, 2-8,  8-3

Men’s B Thurs. 20th June vs. Kirby C Home 6.30pm

Another convincing 7-2 win against Kirby C on a damp, dour evening in Dedham.  4 days on from our last meeting, Kirby were significantly stronger despite only 1 change in personnel. Matt & Donal managed to win all 3 despite going from 6-1 to 6-7 in their final rubber. Robert & John, Halford & Russell both claimed 2 rubbers with ease

Donal & Matt 8/1, 8/4, 9/8

John & Robert 8/1, 2/8,8/5

Russell & Halford 3/8, 8/4, 8/1

Men’s B Thurs. 16th June vs. Kirby C Away 6.30pm

The B’s had a convincing 8-1 win away to Kirby C. The evening was enjoyable despite some dodgy weather & some “memorable” line calls. Performance of the evening went to Matt & Donal wining to love against the Kirby second pair, Robert & John were on fire on court 1 holding off all comers while Russell & Halford had the “cheerleaders” to contend with which they did admirably. Moment of the evening was Halfords – if you dont ask you dont get – when he squeezed a let with Russell splayed on court

Scores

John & Robert 8/6, 8/3,8/2

Donal & Matt 8/6, 8/3, 8/0

Russell & Halford 8/5, 8/3, 5/8

Men’s B Thurs. 2nd June vs. West Mersea A Home 6.30pm

Another home loss for the B’s going down to West Mersea. Neil Weston & Rodderick Main stepped into the line of fire as regulars such as Matt (Captain) Smith, Russell Sainty & Tony Watson were unavailable. In a battling performance sores were level at 3-3 going into the final rubber but despite the prospect of (or perhaps because of) an extra helping of betroot sandwich for the winners Dedham failed to add to there total losing in all 3.

Scores (from memory)

John & Robert 8/3, 8/3,5/8

Donal & Halford 4/8, 8/1, 5/8

Neil & Roderick 3/8, 3/8, 6/8

Men’s B Thurs. 19th May vs. Frinton C Away 6.30pm

The B’ssss had a comfortable win away to Frinton – with each pair (Matt & Donal, Robert & Tony, Halford & Russell) winning two rubbers. None of the Dedham pairings could find a way past a youthful & talented Frinton second pair who scrapped home in all 3 sets. The Frinton grass was in great condition & with the post match refreshments scoring a healthy 7, a good evening was had all round.

Men’s B Thurs. 5th May vs. Wivenhoe A home 6.30pm

The B’s got the season off to a stinker going down 1.5-7.5 and only for bad light it might have been worse :) . All that said it was a very strong Wivenhoe side who combined youth & experience in their first two pairing very effectively. The Wivenhoe third pair specialised in the high lob from every conceivable angle, you get the picture….Dedham pairings were John & Robert (the latter turning out despite a leg injury), Tony & Donal who contrived to lose their first rubber when serving at 7-5 while Russell (Captain) & Halford were leading in the final rubber when light stopped play.

2010 Season

Men’s B Thurs. 13 May vs. Kirby C home 6.30pm

First outing of the season ended in failure (2-7) at home to a very strong Kirby side. All the opening rubbers were in the balance up to the final stage but alas we succumbed in all 3. The remainder of the evening was a little disjointed as one of the Kirby’s third pair had to leave the court early, despite this their pairs 1 & 2 remained strong and won out.

For the Record
Matt & Donal – 6/8, 3/8
Rob & John- 7/9, 3/8
Halford & Russ- 8/9, 3/8, 2/8

Men’s B Wed. 19 May vs. Frinton C away 6.30pm

The B’s got the first win of the season on the grass at Frinton (6-3). While the grass was in good condition the Dedham pairs were battling hard to get any purchase on what became a very slippery surface as the evening dew came down. Turning 3-3 after the first two rubbers it was decided to move to the hard courts for the final rubber. On a familiar surface the Dedham pairs kicked on to win the final 3 sets. All pairs had their moments – Matt & Donal winning from 5-0 down against their third pair, Robert & Tony’s clinical 8-2 against their 2 pair but ultimately it was Russell & Halfords felling of the top pair that was the performance of the night & quite possibly the season

For the Record

Matt & Donal – 5-8, 9-7, 8-2
Robert & Tony – 8-2, 2-8, 9-7
Russell & Halford – 8-6, 4-8, 8-6

Men’s B Thurs. 17 June vs. Col Gar Off Club home 6.30pm

On a beautiful summers eve in Dedham the B’s suffered their second loss of the season going down 3-6 to a very capable Officers Club. Russell & Halford could not recreate the heroics of Frinton a couple of weeks back, Matt & Donal showed some encouraging signs as a pair before injury to Donal in the second rubber put paid to their evening, John & Robert had the performance of the night in taking a rubber from Ivanišević on court 2.

For the Record
Matt & Donal – 4/8, 8/5, 3/8
Rob & John- 9/8, 3/8, 8/3
Halford & Russ- 4/8, 2/8, 2/8

Men’s B Tues. 22 June vs. Little Clacton away 6.30pm

A great win for the B’s ‘even the vegetables, and mud balls being thrown over from the caravan site couldnt put us off’!

MATT/TONY      ROB/JOHN       RUSS/HAL

GUNFIELD / CROSS                        3/8                       6/8                   9/7
AMOY / PARTRIDGE                     2/8                       3/8                   2/8
FAITHFUL / APPLETON              1/8                       2/8                   4/8

John and Robert made sure of a triple win with a good a fight at the end. Some sharp volleying by Halford, and fine serving by Russel kept their end up. A reunited Matt & Tony showed the chemistry was still there

Men’s B Tues. 29 June vs. Kirby C away 6.30pm

A good result on Tuesday….we held on to a win with some Isna inspired play by John and Robert who closed off the tie break under the floodlights. The opposition 1st pair were caught off guard by our dynamic duo Russel and Halford who won two rubbers with ease. A disappointing result from the 1st pair who on the night faired 3rd winning only 1 rubber

Robert & John: Won 2 / Lost 1
Halford & Russ: Won 2 / Lost 1
Matt & Tony: Won 1 / Lost 2

Men’s B Mon. 12 July vs. Col Gar Off Club away 6.30pm

Deham went down heavily to what are comfortably the best team in the league.  Results as follows

John & Robert- 6-8 /2-8/6-8

Tony & Duncan- 4-8/3-8/6-8

Matt & Halford-  4-8/8-2 / 6-8

Men’s B Thurs. 15 July vs. Little Clacton home 6.30pm

Little Clacton failed to show – a 9-0 to Dedham
Men’s B Thurs. 29 July vs. Frinton C home 6.30pm

Final outing of the season results in a 5-4 to Dedham. Rodderick on his first outing for the B’s was the star of the showing carrying Halford to victory in the final & decisive rubber.

Robert & John, Donal & Tony both picked up two rubbers a piece – neither finding a way past a very capable first pair from Frinton
